LA Daily ScheduleMost weeks we stick pretty closely to the schedule below. Weeks with Early-Outs, Standardized Testing, expected (or unexpected) days off sometimes cause us to vary slightly from this schedule.

Literacy Daily ScheduleA typical week in Literacy has a lot going on. As we get into bigger units later in the year, we'll change how things look to suit that particular area of study, but the things listed below are standard all year long with rare exceptions.
Mondays: Article of the Week On Mondays students will be assigned their weekly informational text, often a current events story from a news source. Students have the week to reflect on it and respond in a variety of ways. I'll look for evidence of close reading as well as responses to specific questions. (If a week doesn't have a Monday, students will not have this as homework, but may complete it during class time or within a small group.... or not at all.) Tuesdays: Test Drive Tuesdays A new book will be previewed each Tuesday. Students will reflect on the book using a variety of Literacy standards. At the end of each month, students will write a reflection of the books of the month. By about November, Rott will hand the reins to a different student each week to share books of their choice. Those students are assessed on Speaking and Listening standards. Wednesdays and Thursdays: Literacy Study We'll dive into a particular piece of literature, be it a short story, poem, or novel. We'll also talk about them on other days, but on Wednesdays and Thursdays it will be our main focus. Fridays: Reading Time We will carve out 15-30 minutes each Friday for some exploratory reading and reflection time. |
